RORO system for fast felt replacement

For the paper machine of a French customer, Mecabride developed a RORO (Roll On / Roll Off) system specifically adapted to the existing machine configuration. The motorised and braked unit enables the worn felt to be safely wound up while simultaneously unwinding a new felt, significantly reducing operator effort and speeding up the entire process. When not in use, the system can be removed from the machine using the overhead crane and placed on dedicated storage trolleys.

Mecabride develops custom-made solutions that are precisely tailored to a specific production environment in order to optimise tail threading (paper feeding) through the paper machine and extend the service life of ropes. To this end, we work with the customer on site to analyse existing rope guides and develop customised concepts based on our findings.

As a result, precise adjustments to the rope circuit ensure the smooth passage of the paper tip, reduce wear and tear, and sustainably increase the efficiency of the plant.

Frame for drive units

The existing concrete foundation of a drive unit for press rolls in the wet section of a paper machine had become severely corroded as the result of an aggressive chemical environment and had become unstable. Mecabride developed and manufactured two custom-made frames made of acid-resistant stainless steel to ensure long-term operation of the drive unit.

At the same time, the customer upgraded to a new generation of electric motors. This made it possible to precisely adapt the layout and design work to the new dimensions.

After purchasing a laminating system from a bankruptcy sale, we were commissioned by Mecabride to dismantle, repair, modernize, and install the used system. We adapted the machine to the customer's needs, incorporated the components provided by the customer, and brought the machine up to the latest technology and safety standards.

Poperoller & Tambour magazine

At the customer's request, a new Poperoller with an extended stroke to accommodate larger parent rolls was built based on an existing system. Additionally, a tambour magazine was installed above the winder. The newly created space behind the reel now serves the autonomous industrial truck.

Extraction device for expanding winding shafts & winding shaft handling

This system is a specific device designed to enable the extraction of pneumatic winding shafts from paper rolls. The machine features a transfer carriage that can take the paper roll wound on a cardboard tube and drive it to the various stations.

1. Puller: pulls the winding shaft down from the paper roll
2. Unloading the paper roll
3. Cardboard tube is pushed onto the self-supporting winding shaft by the operator
4. Winding shaft and cardboard tube are placed in the parking position.

Sensor-controlled pressure roller Poperoller

Customer-specific adaptation of a pope roller by retrofitting a sensor-controlled pressure roller to avoid air inclusions between the different winding layers.

For surface-sensitive papers (e.g., carbon paper), the nipping force is controlled by the Poperoller. Because the drum movement is controlled in such a way that the roll increase is always compensated, there is a risk that only minimal or no pressure will be applied against the support drum. This can promote the formation of air inclusions between the different paper layers.

Upgrade a pneumatically operated brake on the unwinder of a rewinding line for paper rolls. The brake is used to brake the paper roll being unwound and thus bring a defined tension to the paper web during the process.
